The short version: we measure which paragraphs people actually read, we keep no advertising data, and we delete the rest on request.

What we do not run

No Google Analytics, no Google Tag Manager, no advertising or retargeting pixel, no social embed, no third-party font, no CDN that sees your IP, and no session-recording tool. When you read a page here, your browser makes no request to any company other than us. This is not a policy aspiration: there is no third-party script on the site to be aspirational about.

What the site measures

A small script loads after the page has finished, and records a section only once it has held your attention for more than two seconds, either a pointer resting on it or it sitting still in the viewport. Scrolling past something does not count, and neither does a flick of the mouse. What is recorded for each qualifying moment: which section of which article it was, roughly where on the page you were, how long you stayed, a fingerprint of that block's text so it can be compared across articles, and the time. If you select text, that is recorded too.

What we never receive

No cookies are set for readers. No name, no email, no account, no advertising identifier, and no IP address. Your address and browser string are combined once into a keyed hash so a single visit is not counted as a hundred; the address is discarded immediately and never written down. The hash cannot be reversed, and rotating our secret makes every identifier we hold worthless at once.

Where it goes, and who can see it

To our own database, on our own server. It is read by the site owner to answer one question: which parts of these articles are worth writing about next. It is not sold, shared, used for advertising, or handed to an analytics vendor, because there is no analytics vendor.

How to opt out, and how long we keep it

Blocking scripts in your browser stops all of it, and the site works exactly the same way without them, nothing on the reading experience depends on measurement. Dwell records are the only personal-adjacent data this site holds, and deleting the table erases all of it. Ask, and it goes.

Crawlers and search engines

Search engines and AI crawlers are welcome, including GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended. The robots file spells out the policy, and it is a deliberate one: if someone asks their chatbot whether their cat is showing stress signs, we would rather be in the answer than be absent from it. Being listed in an answer is not the same as being read by a person, and nothing here tracks who reads what.

Hosting logs

Our host keeps standard server logs, address, timestamp, requested path, for a short period for security and abuse response. That is the host's operational logging, not ours, and it is the one place a network address exists longer than a request. We do not copy it anywhere or join it to reading data.
